From 5 Chickens to Financial Freedom: Empowering Women Through Poultry Farming

In Uganda, chickens are changing the complete trajectory of families! One of our most successful and impactful programs at Agape International is the women's poultry training program, which has brought hope and change to the lives of many women like Kwagala Esther, Sanyu Judith, and Nanteza Stella.

Kwagala Esther, a 35-year-old mother of two, was struggling to make ends meet before she joined the poultry training program. However, with the five chickens she received as a gift, she began to provide a passive income for her family by selling eggs and mature chickens. She gained knowledge about farming and as a result is well able to sustain her business. She now has 40 chickens in total and is no longer vulnerable to poverty.

Sanyu Judith, a 56-year-old mother of five, is also grateful for the knowledge she acquired from the training program. She had previously failed at farming local breed chickens, but with the practical knowledge gained from the program, she now has 50 chickens in her farm. She started with five chickens that were gifted to her, and with the help of local brooding hens, she was able to hatch all her eggs, selling some of the mature chickens and keeping others. She has been given the opportunity to learn and become successful to care for her family. Judith is absolutely unstoppable!

Nanteza Stella, a 29-year-old mother of three, was also gifted five chickens from the training program, and she confesses that they have tremendously blessed her life. She was able to sell the eggs and save some money, which she used to start a business near her home. She currently has 20 chickens, all offspring from the five she was given, and she is now a proud business owner who no longer lacks because she has assets - in the form of chicken!

These inspiring stories are a testament to the success of the Agape Women's Poultry Training Project in empowering vulnerable women and children in Uganda. We are grateful to our supporters who have made this possible, and we invite you to support this cause so that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of many more women and children in need. Together, we can help them discover the love of Jesus and achieve economic self-sufficiency through sustainable farming practices.
