Blind Faith: Scovia's Fight For Her Family
Scovia was a mom of four. A widow. The sole provider for her family. After the death of her husband, Scovia began to work in a stone quarry. This was incredibly dangerous work that paid very little, but she was desperate and needed to find a way to provide. During her time working in the stone quarry, her eyes were injured, and she underwent surgery to repair them. As she recovered, the unthinkable soon became apparent: the surgery hadn’t helped her eyes; it had blinded them.
Scovia cried out to her Father in heaven consistently, but still, her world seemed to be slowly unraveling. Her children began to drop out of school; her oldest son started trying to support the family and her youngest child, Rose tried to help her. Scovia kept constantly praying.
Then one day, Scovia heard an audible voice say “Stop your crying. Your children will go to school, and all will be well.” Scovia asked her daughter, “Was there a man in our house?” Her daughter said, “Yes! There was a man all in white who just ran out!”
For a long time, nothing changed. Even her children began to mock her and throw doubt on God fulfilling His promise. But Scovia continued to pray and trust the Lord to provide for them.
Then she heard another audible voice tell her to go to the district offices. Though filled with questions about what she would do and who she would talk to, Scovia and her daughter made their way to the office and stood outside the next day. She knew in her deepest heart that she needed to have blind faith. As she stood outside, she felt frozen. What now, Lord? From right behind her, a voice came: “Go through the door in front of you.” She asked her daughter if there was a door in front of them…and there was.
Once inside, they told the probation officer their plight, and he wrote a letter for her and told her to go to the Agape International Children Ministries head office.
Right around that time, The Bridge Calvary Chapel was looking for a project to raise money for during their annual Vacation Bible School. The timing was perfect; they raised $5000 that week for Scovia and her family!
Since that time, Scovia’s children have been in school and supported by AICM’s Heart to Heart Project. Her son has just graduated from University with a degree in Information Technology. His education was paid for by the generous men and women who donate to AICM’s University Scholarship Project.
They have not lacked school fees. God has provided for them every step of the way. Through her blind faith, Scovia was able to trust God, Who thoroughly answered every fear and question, and need with His overwhelming love and provision.
